ChildCareEd trainings can be used to fulfill in-service training hours in Washington. 

The following are training requirements for Washington State child care providers.

Family Home Owner: Washington State ECE Initial Certificate: A current CDA Credential is accepted as the equivalent. 2 years after completing the Initial Certificate Family Home Owners must obtain a Short Certificate: A current CDA + eight aligned college credits is accepted as the equivalent.

Family Home Lead Teacher: Washington State ECE Initial Certificate: A current CDA Credential is accepted as the equivalent.

Family Home Assistant Teacher: Washington State ECE Initial Certificate: A current CDA Credential is accepted as the equivalent.

Center Directors or Assistant Directors: Washington State ECE State Certificate: A current CDA Credential is accepted as the equivalent + 35 aligned college credits

Center Program Supervisors: Washington State ECE State Certificate: A current CDA Credential is accepted as the equivalent + 35 aligned college credits

Lead Teachers: Washington State ECE Initial Certificate: A current CDA Credential is accepted as the equivalent. 2 years after completing the Initial Certificate Family Home Owners must obtain a Short Certificate: A current CDA + eight aligned college credits is accepted as the equivalent.

Assistant Teachers: Washington State ECE Initial Certificate: A current CDA Credential is accepted as the equivalent.

CDA Training

Annual training requirements for all providers:

Individuals working in licensed care must complete 10 hours each year.

MERIT Registry

Participants seeking in-service training hours should submit a Continuing Education Proposal (CEP) application through their MERIT account.

With Subscription Services, you can purchase training hours at a low one-time cost. There are three tiers to choose from, depending on your needs:

  • Basic: Unlimited online training
  • CDA Plus: Unlimited online training plus all CDA online training courses
  • Instructor-Led: Unlimited online training, plus all CDA online training courses, and one Virtual Class each month led by a trained Educational Specialist
