All ChildCareEd courses are accepted for Non-STARS Training hours by the West Virginia State Training and Registry System (WV STARS). Courses may be used for up to 15 hours of Non-STARS training per renewal period. 

ChildCareEd is an Internationally accredited organization through IACET that provides Continuing Education Units (CEUs) specialized in Early Childhood Education (ECE). 

Preservice Training Requirements for ALL child care workers:

• Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 
• Prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Use of Safe Sleep Practices
• Administration of Medicine 
• Prevention of and response to allergic reactions 
• Building and Physical Premises Safety 
• Shaken Baby Syndrome 
• Responding to Emergencies 
• Handling and Storage of Hazardous Materials
• Appropriate Precautions in Transportation of Children
• Abuse and Neglect: Signs and Reporting
• First Aid & CPR Blended

Director, assistant director, lead teacher, and teacher education requirements:

• CDA Preschool
• CDA Infant and Toddler
• CDA Family Childcare
• 300 hours of relevant work experience working with young children.

Family Child Care Facility Operator education requirement:

• CDA Family Childcare
• Have 6 months of experience in caring for children in a licensed child care center or family child care facility, registered family care home, Head Start, or other early childhood or school-age child care program.

Annual training requirements for ALL child care workers:

15 hours of approved training

• Director shall have six hours of management training within the required 15 hours.
  • Childcare Management
• Staff members shall have six hours of training related to the age group of children for which they care, within the required 15 hours.

  • Positive Attention: Infants and Toddlers

WV STARS:

To have your courses applied to your WV STARS Learning History Record, submit a completed Non-STARS Training Submission Form along with your certificate(s) of completion to WV STARS. All qualified staff shall apply for credentialing on the WV STARS Career Pathway. All qualified staff shall complete the approved training which is necessary to keep the credential current. Career Pathway Certificate must be renewed every 3-years by completing 45 contact hours of training.
