Steps to Obtain Your CDA Credential 

  • Determine Eligibility:
  • Review the eligibility requirements established by the Council for Professional Recognition to confirm that you qualify for the CDA Credential.
  • Select a CDA Setting:
    • Infant-Toddler
    • Preschool
    • Family Child Care
    • Home Visitor
  • Complete Required Training:
    • Creating a #safe and #healthy learning environment
    • Supporting children's physical and intellectual development
    • Fostering social and emotional growth
    • Building relationships with families
    • Managing effective program operations
    • Observing and recording children's behavior
    • Understanding child development principles
  • Gain Professional Experience:
  • Compile a Professional Portfolio:
    • Examples of your work
    • Reflections on your practice
    • Documentation of interactions with children and families
    • Create a comprehensive portfolio that documents your education, training, and experience. 
  • Submit Your Application:
    • Transcripts
    • Certificates of completion for training hours
    • Verification of professional experience
  • Undergo Verification Visit:
    • Observation of your work with children
    • Review of your portfolio
    • An interview to discuss your knowledge and practices in #early-childhood-education
  • Take the CDA Exam:
    • The CDA Exam consists of 65 multiple-choice questions, including scenario-based questions. You will have up to one hour and 45 minutes to complete the exam. The exam is administered by Pearson VUE at testing centers nationwide.
  • Receive Your Credential:
    • If you successfully complete the assessment process and meet all requirements, you will be awarded the CDA Credential, which is valid for three years. You can renew this credential through the Council for Professional Recognition.
