The Montessori educational method has been around for over 100 years! The focus of the Montessori method is the dynamic triad of child, teacher, and environment. One of the teacher’s roles is to guide the child through what Maria Montessori termed as the 'prepared environment’, i.e., a classroom and a way of learning that are designed to support the child’s intellectual, physical, emotional and social development through active exploration, choice and independent learning. Believe it or not, this is also the central idea behind Quality Rated as well! The Environmental Rating Scales, whether you are using the Early Childhood (ECERS) or the Infant/Toddler (ITERS), look at the dynamic between teacher, child, and the environment. Although the classroom materials may not be exactly the same, the concept of children learning by engaging with hands-on materials is the same. Teachers must be intentional in their interactions with the children, and lessons have to be planned out.
We here at H&H Child Care Training (ChildCareEd) offer many Georgia-approved classes on teacher interactions, children’s use of materials, and setting up the classroom environment. All our classes will meet not only DECAL licensing requirements but also the Quality Rated annual training hours within Standard One of the Online Portfolio.
