POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Teacher will work with the administration and lead teachers to support and promote the educational and social development of the children enrolled in the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-Comply with organizations policies and procedures to ensure the environment is safe and conducive to quality care.
-Assist with daily lessons and routines.
-Assist with recordkeeping, such as tracking attendance and sign-in sheets.
-Help supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities to ensure children’s safety.
-Assist with implementing our curriculum in a way that is consistent with the unique needs of each child.
-Assist in preparing for lessons by getting materials ready or setting up equipment.
-Assist in planning and maintaining a safe, clean, and nurturing learning environment where children can learn and play.
-Help to enforce center and classroom expectations using positive guidance and language.
-Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self and social awareness.
-Observe the children’s performance/progress.
-Maintain a calm, positive attitude and warm tone while working together with the children, staff, and families.
-Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents, coworkers, and administration.
-Closely follow licensing regulations related to the Virginia Department of Education.
-Follow and help ensure all administration policies and rules.
-All other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies:
-Have a passion for teaching/working with young children.
-An ability to build good, healthy relationships with families and coworkers.
-Dependability, outstanding customer service skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and manage multiple situations effectively.
-Ability to speak, read, and write basic English.
-The ability to accept guidance and supervision.
-CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
-Must meet VA Licensing guidelines for the role
-Must be physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency, lift a minimum of 30 pounds, and work in indoor or outdoor settings.
-Must be able to assume postures at low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity with children.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education & Experience:
-Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma/GED
-CDA, some college level coursework or degree is preferred
-A minimum of 3 years of experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 2 years old.
-CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain
Technology Skills:
-Basic computer skills (MS Office), ability to learn family software applications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
-Stand, walk, sit, reach outward, reach above shoulders, lift at least 30 pounds to waist level.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
-Work is performed primarily at the center with work indoors and outdoors.
